About Alia Luria

Alia Luria is a data privacy lawyer with a rare combination of legal, corporate, and technical expertise. With a background in software development and corporate counsel experience, she understands deeply the complexities of privacy compliance from both a business and implementation perspective.

Alia has over 15 years of experience helping companies from fast-growing startups to global enterprises build, test, and strengthen their privacy programs. She’s worked on everything from incident response preparedness and cybersecurity policies to AI governance and personal data retention strategies.

Prior to practicing law, Alia had a career working for multiple startup copies as a web developer and software engineer, focusing on web-based application design and development in a range of industries, including telecommunications, entertainment, and business-to-business service industries. After leaving life as a developer and attending law school, she began her legal career in the corporate practice group of an AMLAW 100 law firm. Given her technical background, Alia quickly began advising companies on privacy and data breach compliance, including data privacy in M&A transaction, data security compliance matters, and information governance. She also applied her prior software engineering knowledge to the creation of alegal expert system solution that automated on-demand answers to data breach compliance questions for clients. Alia then moved to boutique law firms to continue her practice and co-founded InFront Compliance to to help organizations simplify an manage risk more effectively through customizable assessments.

In founding ARLA Privacy & Technology Strategies, Alia offers subscription advisory services that empowers clients to develop, operationalize, and mature their privacy programs, turning privacy compliance into a seamless, scalable process that builds resilience and provides her clients a competitive advantage.

  • Worked on-site with a publicly-traded Fortune 500 restaurant conglomerate to advise on privacy program maturity, data classification, and incident response.
  • Negotiated DPAs for a last-mile logistics startup with a Fortune 100 beverage company that paved the way for their $30M+ acquisition.
  • Crafted and facilitated an executive privacy tabletop exercise for a truck manufacturer in the top 150 of the Global 2000 which paved the way for them to rethink their global crisis management planning. Presented findings to their risk counsel and worked on multiple follow-on projects, including helping them to establish AI governance criteria and a review process.
  • Managed state breach notification process and assisted on HIPAA audit response for a regional hospital after inadvertent disclosure of children's personal health data.
  • Conducted multi-domain privacy assessment for publicly-traded food and beverage chain and identified multiple opportunities for privacy compliance and maturity improvements.
